Paving Quality and Durability

In essence the paving is a high quality, strong concrete slab, which has all the practical benefits of a concrete slab, but it looks very attractive! The main concrete slab is coloured by applying PICS Colour Surface Hardener to the surface while the concrete is in its plastic state.

This product is a highly durable, abrasion resistant material, which is in fact, considerably stronger than even the concrete. It does exactly as it's name suggests, it colours and hardens the surface. It is manufactured in a factory under quality-controlled conditions to the very highest standards, ensuring high durability and colour uniformity.

Applied in the right way, this product ensures many years of attractive, trouble free use and exactly the same product is used for petrol forecourts, car parks, shopping precincts, in fact anywhere a durable, minimal maintenance and attractive paving surface is required. Further more, this top quality material is sealed with a penetrating acrylic sealer, which further enhances its durability.

Independent tests, undertaken at the Transport and Road Research Laboratory, back up this rhetoric.

Regarding abrasion resistance, comparing an unsealed colour hardened finish to a powerfloated slab, "these excellent results are despite the fact that the surface was not imprinted or sealed which would unquestionably create further strength".

Regarding skid resistance values of the paving, "values obtained are excellent and qualify the product for use in any application for either or both pedestrian or wheeled, vehicular traffic".

Regarding paving surface strength, "test values show a surface strength that is highly surprising for a concrete on grade slab produced without power finishing".

Finally, "based on test results achieved, the TRL considers PICS paving colour surface hardener a high performance product and thus suitable and safe for use in any domestic, commercial paving or industrial paving application".
