TIMELESS PAVING

FAQ

Questions frequently asked by our customers

Q: How long does the sealant last?
A: 3-8 years depending on wear and tear. It is not essential that it is sealed again, it just becomes rather dull. A new coat brings it all back to brand spanking new again.

Q: Why do we need crack control joints?
A: Crack control joints are cut in at regular intervals as recommended by British Standards. They are cut to a depth of 25% of the slab. The object of this is so if a crack should occur, it would follow the direction of the weakened points so that the crack never becomes visible, and the crack control joint itself is filled with mastic.

Q: Can this be layed all year round?
A: Yes. It is a slightly longer process in the winter and will generally take 5 days. The frost however, does not really affect us until it reaches -8 degrees, which is extremely rare.

Q: Does the concrete crack or fade?
A: The risk of cracking can never be completely ruled out,but the risk is cut to a minimum by our specifications. In our experience,if a crack does eventually develop it will almost always remain barely visible. The colours do not fade---if they appear to do so ,it merely means the concrete needs resealing.

Q: How long must I stay off my new driveway?
A: 24-48 hours for pedestrian traffic. 6 days for the car. 48 days for heavy goods vehicles.

Q: How strong is the concrete used?
A: The concrete used is guaranteed to reach a strength of 30 newtons or more. This is the same strength required for motorway concrete. In the summer we use 300kgs cement per cubic metre and in the winter 380kgs. All our concrete is re-enforced using fibre mesh and contains air entrainers for frost protection.

Q: If I don't like the colour of my new driveway, can I have my money back?
A: Get lost!!! However, every effort will be made to ensure that this never be the case.We have a wide range of colour samples and photographs as well as expert advice---you will like the colour.

Q: How deep do you dig down?
A: Firstly, 4" for the concrete and then as far as is needed in the given conditions.Average 5-8".

Q: Is it a messy job?
A: During the day of concrete pouring, it can be dusty, particularly if it is windy. However, the following day all traces of chalk dust are blasted away with one of our trusty pressure washers to leave you in a clean and pristine condition.

Q: How many colours and patterns are available?
A: There are 20 main colours and 8 main pattern designs available,a wider variety does exist if required (see section on colours and patterns). It costs no more to mix and match,so a selection of both patterns and colours can be used on the same installation.

Q: How do I deal with accidental spillages?
A: For most spillages including oil, washing up liquid is fine(the sooner the better). For paint or cement,we are able to supply substances,so long as it is not too severe.

Q: What happens if we have to have an area of imprinted concrete dug up ?
A: We are able to uplift and relay sections leaving the finished job with little or no colour difference

Q: Are there any do's and don'ts?
A: Don't apply salt directly to the surface. Don't go ballistic when salts appear(they are treated simply and quickly) Do recommend us..

Caution!
If the seal on the driveway has become worn with age or blemished due to salts or rainfall (before it has set), it is easily rectified with a clear new coat of sealant.

The blemished area (far right) has been resealed (left)
